A Walk Up Rough Tor

The first day of summer and what a cracking start it is around here shorts on and getting my push bike ready for a good day out started off at Davidow and went to Rough Tor only about five miles.

A few steep hills to pedal up/walk up and into the small unkept car park you be alright in a small van but it is a bit rough with potholes and even some of the cars were grounding out.

Anyway, it was well worth the effort getting there the walk up to the top was an easy hike although, after all the rain and snow we have had it was quite wet and boggy the views across the moors were great and the rock formation and the rock stacks were amazing.

when coming back down to the carpark by the stream if you look over to the left there is a monument to a girl that was murdered at the spot where it stands this happened on April 14th, 1844  the story goes that she was friends with two boys and the one that they hung for the crime might of been the innocent one.
Below are a few photos of the top of Rough Tor, along with a photo of the monument and a copy of the inscription on the monument.

"This monument is erected by Public subscription in Memory of Charlotte Dymond who was Murdered hereby Matthew Weekes on Sunday, April 14, 1844."

All Snowed In and loving it !

Sunday
The snow is really coming down today I think if it stays like this there will be a real white out tomorrow, I am parked up on the moors and this is where i will be staying.
I am hoping that while I am here the wind will die down and allow me to get the drone into the air we have very strong gusts blowing over the moors at the moment
37mph at 33ft and 80mph at 500ft, sorry but only a fool would risk flying in that plus with the snow falling its a No No?.
the snowfall now has become a complete blizzard with the wind blowing the snow in all directions
I have enough food for the best part of a week and about 15ltrs of water, suppose I could always melt some snow to make my brews.

Monday
Had been snowing through the night and the drift must be 3 foot high so don't think i will be moving off here today
at about 12.30 this afternoon a 4x4 pulled up to see if i needed any help or supplies he also said that he has put a tyre track path to my van over the tarmac if i wanted to get closer to the main road though he did advise me not to get onto the road as it was compacted ice so looks like another night on the moors. The last thing i want to do is inadvertently drive onto a grassed area and get bogged down.
Tuesday
Still a good amount of snow on the moors the main road though is useable but the side roads onto the parking area overlooking the lake are still iced over making it hard for me will wait till this afternoon before i try again.
I managed to fly the drone this afternoon along with two lads that had DJI Mavric-pro and a DJI Mavic-pro platinum drone both superb looking drones the platinum model is the newer one and is very silent when flying expensive at £1500 thats with carry case two spare batterys.

Bike Ride to Trengune,Canworthy Water,Crackington Haven.

Day One

Sat in on of my well-used laybys peeing down outside and a cold wind blowing a pickup van has parked in front of me and slowly but surely has been reversing back closer and closer ties to get my attention for the last 15 Min's.
Well, i think these boys are in for a shock soon i have been told the council have installed hidden cameras in most of the Laybys that are being used for an immoral purpose and fly-tipping.  I have no doubt my van will keep showing up in most of the places that are frequented by these people but that's the price i will have to pay for my lifestyle. I just hope am not tarred with the same brush i do believe in living and let live but not when includes me being put on some sort of gay boys list. Sorry if i sound homophobic but at the end of the day when they approach me i am.
On a lighter note, I have managed to get hold of a second-hand Zoom GFX 1 Multi-effects pedal and an old but unused and still in the box Zoom 504II Acoustic effect pedal so, i will look forward to messing around with them ?.

Day Two
Spent the day which for a change is warm bright and sunny having a bike ride into a few small villages. Trengune, Canworthy Water, Higher-Crackington and Crackington Haven. Think its about 20 miles in total back to my van near Wainhouse Corner. Anybody that as visited Crackington Haven will know how hilly it is and we all know if you go down a hill you have to get back up one. A bit much for the first bike ride of the year so no doubt will feel it in the morning.

Day Three
As am writing this the weather has gone back to being cold, windy and believe it or not after yesterdays sunshine it bloody snowing again,

Old Rugged Cross For My Mum.

Video How I Make My Stews. Plus Nice Bottle Of Welsh Whisky And A Good Film

I have moved off the moors now in order to get some food for the larder with that done am now settling down getting ready to watch a film plus with a nice glass of Penderyn Legend Single Malt Welsh Whisky (from the Brecon Beacons National Park)  in my hand  I should be in for a nice evening by the fire. The distillery is in Penderyn and is open to visitors also not too far away you have the National Showcaves Centre For Wales the town of Neath and Merthyr Tydfil.
Woke up this morning to a bright and warm start to the day looking out of the window facing forwards I can see right over to Bodmin Moor and the hills, looking to the left your facing  Cullompton and Exeter both way over in the distance somewhere.
You can still see a lot of snow lying in the hedgerows and along the side of a few B roads makes for a pretty picture. Not moving off from this park up there are no houses about so two nights will not harm or upset anybody the day is coming to an end and the rain as just started.
Mothers day coming up soon, my mums been gone a few years now I use to take her every year to her favourite place The Hollow tree just off the M56 at Stretton close to Warrington and Northwich in Cheshire. And she didn't half put on the airs and graces while there I wouldn't mind so much but we would go there at least twice a week. She was always a very active person and never in her home until late evening all that changed when she took a tumble tripping over a raised paving stone.
Breaking her nose and shoulder then after about three months she got full-blown dementia next step care home for her own safety then she just gives up the ghost and passed on.
Mothers day is also the day I had my heart Attack a good few years back so has good and bad memories for me neither mind only one way now and that's forwards.

The Streets of Laredo

Learned this like most of the others by ear so some of the notes will be wrong personly i don't think I've done a bad job

Friday 2 March 2018

What would you of done to help this girl.

While I was in the pub today I got talking to this young girl probably about in her mid-twenties i think her name was Megan.
She was back-packing up the coastline heading north the weather outside was snowing and getting down to about minus 5/6.
carrying a holdall that was longer than she was tall and wearing nothing but wellies no socks 3/4 length work-out type of trousers a short tee shirt and a thin summer type of jacket.
Her legs around the top where the wellies had been rubbing had open sores which were weeping her mid-drift was red with the cold yet she looked well and healthy but down in the dumps. She told me about her walk from Falmouth to Tintagel over the last few weeks.
Megan also told me she had met somebody in the pub last night that was prepared to put her up for the night I lent her my phone in order for her to get in touch with this guy I could hear the conversation quite clearly and it all seemed to tie in with what she had told me.
After about an hour of me trying to make conversation with her, that was all very one way on my side she just picked up her pack and left without saying a word or a by your leave.
That did not bother me in the least what did was the fact that she might well be sleeping under canvas in this weather to which i think she was well under-equipped to cope with. I did have a walk along the cliff top path heading north in the hope I would catch up with her and ask if she needed any help could not find her. I just hope that she will be ok its cold enough in the van with the heating on never mind being under canvas with no decent clothing or heating.
Update
I back in the pub now talking to the barman and he confirmed that she had met somebody in the pub last night and for whatever reasons he ditched her, fortunately, one of the other pubs in the village namely the Cornishman Inn put her up in one of the rooms for the night
I would like to give a thumbs up to the Cornishman Inn, Tintagel for their kindness this kind of help could possibly prevent a tragedy. I personly would have paid for a bed and breakfast not just for this lady but for anybody that was in the same predicament.
So my question is what could I do to help and what would you have done.
