While I was in the pub today I got talking to this young girl probably about in her mid-twenties i think her name was Megan.
She was back-packing up the coastline heading north the weather outside was snowing and getting down to about minus 5/6.
carrying a holdall that was longer than she was tall and wearing nothing but wellies no socks 3/4 length work-out type of trousers a short tee shirt and a thin summer type of jacket.
Her legs around the top where the wellies had been rubbing had open sores which were weeping her mid-drift was red with the cold yet she looked well and healthy but down in the dumps. She told me about her walk from Falmouth to Tintagel over the last few weeks.
Megan also told me she had met somebody in the pub last night that was prepared to put her up for the night I lent her my phone in order for her to get in touch with this guy I could hear the conversation quite clearly and it all seemed to tie in with what she had told me.
After about an hour of me trying to make conversation with her, that was all very one way on my side she just picked up her pack and left without saying a word or a by your leave.
That did not bother me in the least what did was the fact that she might well be sleeping under canvas in this weather to which i think she was well under-equipped to cope with. I did have a walk along the cliff top path heading north in the hope I would catch up with her and ask if she needed any help could not find her. I just hope that she will be ok its cold enough in the van with the heating on never mind being under canvas with no decent clothing or heating.
Update
I back in the pub now talking to the barman and he confirmed that she had met somebody in the pub last night and for whatever reasons he ditched her, fortunately, one of the other pubs in the village namely the Cornishman Inn put her up in one of the rooms for the night
I would like to give a thumbs up to the Cornishman Inn, Tintagel for their kindness this kind of help could possibly prevent a tragedy. I personly would have paid for a bed and breakfast not just for this lady but for anybody that was in the same predicament.
So my question is what could I do to help and what would you have done.
